Notable as the county seat, Bellefonte lies just fifteen miles northeast of State College and is connected to neighboring towns by Interstate 99. Four rural townships surround the Borough of Bellefonte: Benner, Marion, Spring and Walker. Local students attend schools in the Bellefonte Area School District, or local private or charter schools.
- Bellefonte
- Nestled in rolling hills, Bellefonte offers a range of housing options, from historic Victorian homes to newly developing neighborhoods. With a population just shy of 24,000 people, Bellefonte has the charm of a Victorian community with rural surroundings.
- Pleasant Gap
- Once a stagecoach stop, Pleasant Gap still offers an old-fashioned atmosphere for homeowners. Interstate 99 allows residents easy access to nearby communities while allowing Pleasant Gap to maintain its small-town charm.
- Events and Culture
- The natural spring in the center of town inspired the name Bellefonte, which means “beautiful fountain.” Residents celebrate the spring each May by gathering in Talleyrand Park for the Big Spring Festival. Other community events include the Bellefonte Cruise car show on Father’s Day, the Bellefonte Arts and Crafts Festival and the Victorian Christmas Celebration.
- The surrounding townships contain rural communities, forested hills and mountain streams. Local farmers bring their produce to the Bellefonte Farmer’s Market, while Fisherman’s Paradise offers trout fishing just outside of town. The Nittany Country Club also provides fun and recreation for all ages.
