The Bellefonte Area School District

The Bellefonte Area School District serves the Borough of Bellefonte and the surrounding townships of Benner, Marion, Spring and Walker. 2,979 students are enrolled in the district for 2009-10, with 2,956 projected for the 2016-17 school year. Professional personnel have on average 15.3 years of experience and earn an average salary of $50,554.

Schools
There are four elementary schools in the Bellefonte area, after which students attend Bellefonte Middle School and Bellefonte Area High School, both located in the Borough of Bellefonte (see the table below). The school district also oversees the Centre Learning Community charter school along with the State College and the Bald Eagle Area School Districts.
In addition to sports such as baseball and softball, the high school offers a ski club, a literary and arts magazine, and a drama club. Elementary through high school students can also play in orchestras or sing in school choirs.
Academics
The graduation rate is 93% for Bellefonte Area High School, with a graduating class of around 250 students. The average SAT score is 1428, with an average Critical Reading score of 478, Math score of 487 and Writing score of 463. The percentages of students who scored at a proficient level or above in the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment are 79% in Math and 74% in Reading.
