The State College Area School District

The State College Area School District (SCASD) serves the Borough of State College and College, Ferguson, Harris, Halfmoon and Patton Townships. For the 2009-10 school year, there are 7,022 students enrolled in the district. The district-wide enrollment is expected to increase to 7,547 for 2016-17. The district’s professional personnel have on average 14.9 years of experience and earn an average salary of $58,663.

Schools
Ten elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school form the district (see the table below). Additionally, the SCASD has chartered four charter schools: Centre Learning Community, Nittany Valley Charter School, Wonderland Charter School and Young Scholars of Central Pennsylvania, all of which are located in the State College area.
The State College Area High School has a diverse student body and offers a range of academic programs and extracurricular activities to challenge each of its students. Foreign language classes include French, German, Latin, Spanish and Arabic. The school’s athletic teams, theatre, music programs and science teams have also been nationally recognized for their excellence.
Academics
The SCASD boasts a 95% graduation rate. The percentages of students who scored at a proficient level or above in the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment are 84% in Math and 84% in Reading. Additionally, the average SAT score is 1640, with an average Critical Reading score of 542, Math score of 565 and Writing score of 533.
